Vaginal cancer starts in the vagina. The vagina is a passageway that connects the cervix (opening of the uterus) to the outside of the body. It is also known as the birth canal. Other types of cancer can spread to the vagina (known as vaginal metastasis). Specific numbers for vaginal cancer are not reported separately (Canadian Cancer Society Cancer Encyclopedia).
