Join us in welcoming the Lung Health Foundation’s new CEO

September 21st, 2022

There is a new head of the Lung Health Foundation.

The Board of Directors has appointed Jessica Buckley to the role of Chief Executive Officer. Chair of the Foundation Dan Markovich welcomed Buckley, saying they are thrilled to have her guiding their work.

Buckley comes from an entrepreneurial background in the sports and entertainment industry. She is the former Senior Vice President of Woodbine Entertainment. Buckley called the Lung Health Foundation’s mission “critically important” to all Canadians.

Buckley replaces George Habib, who has been the CEO of the organization for 15 years. Through his leadership, the Foundation brought much-needed attention to lung disease, and established itself as an innovative and patient-centric organization. Habib also led the group to become a national organization, despite the challenges of the pandemic.

The Lung Health Foundation aims to prevent lung-related deaths and to promote respiratory health. They say hundreds needlessly lose their lives to asthma, tens of thousands end up in hospital with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and thousands more will die from Lung Cancer. In addition, too many young Canadians will continue to smoke and vape, and many others will not get the vaccines needed to prevent hospitalization and death.

The Lung Health Foundation and the Cancer Survivor Network have a strong working relationship. The Foundation is one of our partners in Right2Survive, which you can learn more about here.
