Permanent residents of Manitoba have access to Manitoba Health, which covers the costs of physicians’ services, surgery and anesthesia, and some hospital services.
Pharmacare coverage for prescription drugs is available for Manitobans, and is based on household income. The program aims to help Manitobans, regardless of disease or age, whose income is significantly affected by high prescription drug costs. The government of Manitoba announced in April 2012 that it would now be covering 100 per cent of eligible cancer treatment medicine and support drugs for patients at home.
