Cancers can be expensive to treat and manage. In a literature review conducted by the Canadian Cancer Society in 2010, findings showd that most of the costs incurred by patients and their families were traced back to travelling expenses, out-of-pocket costs, and cancer drugs and prescription medicines. This section is meant to provide financial aid and resources specific to cancer patients and their families residing in the Northwest Territories.
Health benefits
Extended health benefits – The Government of the Northwest Territories will provide assistance to eligible persons in the Northwest Territories who require health services beyond those covered by the Northwest Territories Health Care Plan.
Metis health benefits – The Government of the Northwest Territories will provide health benefits assistance to eligible recipients of the Metis Health Benefits Program.
Canadian Cancer Society
The Financial Assistance Program available through the CCS gives support to people in financial need for transportation and accommodation when travelling to and from treatment at cancer treatment facilities in Alberta.
