Globally, approximately 1,676,633 women and men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 521,817 will die from the disease (Globocan, 2012).

There are hundreds of breast cancer organizations, many which provide information and support, raise funds for research, or provide services to specific populations, such as young women, women living with metastatic breast cancer, rural women, etc. We are not able to list all groups, and suggest that you consult the larger organizations in your region for referral to local groups.

Breast International Group (BIG-Belgium)

Breast International Group is a non-profit organization that supports academic breast cancer research around the world. It facilitates international cooperation between its members and academic networks while collaborating with, but remaining independent from, the pharmaceutical industry. BIG runs and develops about 30 clinical trials and partners with the US National Cancer Institute and the North American Breast Cancer Institute to create a strong platform for breast cancer research.

Europa Donna: the European Breast Cancer Coalition

National Breast Cancer Coalition (USA)

Since 1991, the National Breast Cancer Coalition’s trained advocates have lobbied at the national, state and local levels for public policies that impact breast cancer research, diagnosis and treatment. Their grassroots advocacy effort has hundreds of member organizations and tens of thousands of individual members working toward increased federal funding for breast cancer research, collaborations with the scientific community to implement new models of research, improved access to high-quality health care and breast cancer clinical trials for all women, and expanded influence of breast cancer advocates at all levels of decision-making in breast cancer research and policy.

Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation

The Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation was set up on 8 March 2005, as a non-profit charitable organisation dedicated to eliminating the threat of breast cancer to the local community through education, support and research and advocacy.

Breast Cancer Research Foundation (USA)

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to achieving prevention and a cure for breast cancer. They provide critical funding for cancer research worldwide to fuel advances in tumor biology, genetics, prevention, treatment, metastasis and survivorship.

Since their founding in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder, BCRF has raised more than half a billion dollars for lifesaving research. Living Beyond Breast Cancer (USA)

LBBC was founded in 1991 by radiation oncologist Marisa C. Weiss, MD, in response to a woman’s need for breast-cancer-related information, connection and support after completing treatment. Today, LBBC has expanded to assist women at all stages of diagnosis, treatment and recovery. LBBC’s mission includes offering specialized programs and services for the newly diagnosed, young women, women with advanced breast cancer, women at high risk for developing the disease, and African-American women. LBBC also offers programs for caregivers and healthcare professionals to help them better meet the needs of women affected by breast cancer.
