Cancer in Canada in 2022

According to the Canadian Cancer Statistics 2022:

  • An estimated 233,900 Canadians will receive a cancer diagnosis in 2022, and 85,100 will die of cancer.
  • The rate of lung cancer incidence in men has gone down by 52 per cent since 1984 – a remarkable decline.
  • Despite this, lung cancer remains the number one cause of cancer death in Canada.
  • Pancreatic cancer is expected to be the third leading cause of cancer death in 2022.

These are some of the projected statistics from the Canadian Cancer Statistics 2022 that were recently published in the peer-reviewed Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ). The Canadian Cancer Statistics is a comprehensive survey of cancer in Canada, published every second year by the Canadian Cancer Society.
