Leger, on behalf of the Canadian Cancer Survivor Network recently conducted a study to assess the extent to which the disruption of cancer care caused by COVID-19 is impacting Canadian cancer patients and caregivers.
The study revealed that the response to the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a crisis in essential cancer care across the country. More than half (54%) of cancer patients, caregivers, and those awaiting confirmation of a cancer diagnosis are facing postponed and cancelled appointments, tests and treatment, causing heightened fears and anxiety. There are now concerns that cancer care, including necessary surgery, will be postponed or cancelled as a second wave of COVID-19 is occurring in several regions of the country.
